Keeping the spark alive once baby’s arrived

Becoming a parent means that baby and their needs come first, but that doesn’t mean the relationship between you and your partner should take a back seat.

There are a number of ways to keep your relationship alive after the birth of your baby.

Optimistically, you hope that nothing will change when baby comes along, but unfortunately the new demands of your child will be your top priority. You are now a parent and this comes with significant fatigue, an intense love and obsession over your new human being and so much to do. This will naturally affect the time you spend with your partner, but here are some things you can try to keep the spark:

  1. Talk, talk, talk. Don’t forget to share the stories about your day with your partner, as you did before.
  2. The wooing should never end in a relationship. After having a baby, wooing becomes almost as important as when you were in the courtship phase of your relationship. Make being close and intimate a priority.
  3. Make the most of your time while baby is asleep. Use this time to spend meaningful quality time together rather than bringing on series in separate rooms.
  4. Share your baby and share the chores. You can’t do everything on your own and you will need help. Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re less capable.
  5. Do what you can to help. Sharing the responsibilities will enable both of you to work on your relationship and complete all the tasks that must be done.
Having a baby and working on a relationship requires teamwork from you and your partner. Make sure to always be the helping hand that the other needs and take on the responsibility of working on your connection together.
